Reducing Weight of Freight Bogie Bolster Using Topology Optimization

Nowadays, the weight minimization of a structure without affecting initial performance is challenging issue for design engineers. Weight reduction approaches such as topological optimization provide solution to determining optimal shape compromising intended and required functionality. For most structures, topology problems have been formulated either minimize compliance or under volume stress constraints, respectively subjected certain boundary loading conditions. In present work, performed by minimizing compliance, constraint, results in weight-saving railway freight bogie bolster strength. A penalization scheme, SIMP (Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization) method used determine optimum distribution material, void has incorporated design. Topology run on suggest mass from chosen space. The modified resulting an approximate about 6.23%. Stress deformation study FEA tool justifies work. modal analysis confirms interchangeability designs.
